The US State Department has ordered all non-emergency government personnel and their family members in Shanghai to leave as COVID-19 surges and told US citizens to reconsider traveling to China, according to an announcement. dated April 11.
“Reconsider travel to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) due to the arbitrary application of local laws and restrictions related to COVID-19,” the State Department said.
“Please do not travel to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China, Jilin Province and Shanghai Municipality due to restrictions related to COVID-19, including the risk of separation of parents and children” says the statement. “Reconsider traveling to Hong Kong SAR of the People’s Republic of China due to the arbitrary application of local laws.”
