Mumbai, April 18: Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowling sensation Umran Malik is wowing everyone with his express pace and accuracy on the IPL 2022.
Cricket greats like Ian Bishop, Sunil Gavaskar and Dale Steyn are excited to see this closer from Jammu and Kashmir do so well in the tournament, with everyone saying he has a bright future ahead of him.
Umran began his time in the IPL as a net shooter for Sunrisers Hyderabad and is now a vital cog in the team’s attacking pace.
While taking a look back at his formative years, the quick with the right arm revealed that he earned a reputation in his neighborhood with his natural ability to bowl at a genuine pace.
“I always got the support of my family to play cricket. My father is a vegetable vendor in Jammu and has worked very hard on our education. I grew up playing in the Tawi Ground neighborhood and impressed the older adults there with my fast bowling Clubs used to call me to play for them whenever a big team visited and I won matches for them. So it all started from there,” Malik, 22, recounted how his family supported him on Cricket Live on Star Sport. .
Speaking about how it came to be in the eyes of the state selectors, Malik said: “I used to get scared thinking about the tryouts as I hadn’t even played at the district level so I never went to the tryouts. But I made up my mind. and I went to the J&K Under-19 trials. The selectors were shocked after I bowled the first installment. They asked me who I was and how I could bowl so fast. From that moment on, my journey in professional cricket began.” Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop has been eyeing Umran Malik since his IPL debut last year and the legendary pacemaker believes that if he stays fit, he will play for India.
“I’ve been excited about this guy ever since I saw him bowl last year. Genuine rhythm, you can’t go to a supermarket and buy that. You can train someone to master line and length, but you can’t teach them to someone to go bowling fast. He is bowling with hostility, which means that even the best of batsmen will feel uncomfortable in front of him. He scares you the way Lockie Ferguson and Jofra Archer do, and Dale Steyn loves him. It is simply fascinating to me what Umran Malik can become. If he stays fit, he will play for India and international cricket. I would also repeat how many Umran Malik in this vast nation have yet to be discovered,” Bishop said on Cricket Live on Star Sports.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with Umran’s pace and accuracy. The great batsman claimed that the fast with the right arm will play for India.
“Umran Malik has been very, very impressive with his speed, but more than his speed, it’s his accuracy (which is impressed). A lot of players who shoot at that speed tend to spray the ball, but Umran shoots very few wide deliveries. he can control the widths down the leg side, he’s going to be a tremendous bowler because that means he’s going to be attacking the stumps all the time, and with his pace, it’s not easy to hit a straight wicket, he’s going to be pretty much a bowler bowling unplayable. He is going to play for India,” he said.
Legendary South African pacemaker Dale Steyn, who has intimidated even the best batsmen with his ferocious bowling, is Umran’s mentor at SRH.
“My job with Umran is to make sure he runs fast and get the players to play differently. My job is to try to get him to have a forward-thinking vision of what batsmen are planning to do. It’s exciting for us to sit back and see what a genius he is. I don’t want to make him what he was, all I want is for his geniuses to come out,” Steyn said.
Former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan, who mentored Umran during his time in Jammu and Kashmir Ranji, also praised the young talent.
Irfan, who is the only pacemaker from India to score a hat-trick in the first round of a test match, said: “If a bowler has that extra pace, then a batsman never feels comfortable facing him. The more you play, the better.” he will get. If you look at his front foot, he stands very straight and also the follow through is impressive. His career is fantastic. All of this will take you the distance. He made his first class cricket debut and that must have given him some experience of bowling with the red ball.
“Umran is also special because despite bowling at such a pace, he looks to try and get the ball spinning. Just look at the position of the seam with which he bowls the ball. He is a special player.”
