Both Tewatia and Rashid may not be pure hitters, but they certainly have the ability to win games for their team with the bat. Before the match against SRH on Wednesday, both players had already won the games for Gujarat with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2022 season.
After the game ended, both players reflected their belief and fighting spirit in their social media posts and post-match performance.
“Just keep believing,” Tewatia wrote on Twitter alongside her photos.
“This is what #TataIPL is all about, fight to the finish! @rahultewatia02 Glad we were able to do those races together!” Rashid tweeted.
“It feels good to go in there and have that confidence in myself and keep my form stronger and hit. Happy to deliver against them (SRH), just trying to play my game and have that confidence in my hitting that I’ve been working on. “. of the last two years,” said the Afghan player in the post-match presentation.
“When there were 22 left. I just told Tewatia that we had given 25 in the last over with one of our best bowls and I told him that we need to have that belief and not panic, anything is possible. Just stay there, keep your form and He hits hard and that was the plan (with Tewatia),” he added.
Chasing a huge 196-run goal for victory, goalkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha shattered a solid half century (68 of 38) and kept Gujarat alive in the chase. However, apart from him, most of the Gujarat batsmen (Shubman Gill (22), David Miller (17), Hardik Pandya (10)) could not score much despite starting. But, further down the order, it was Rahul Tewatia (40 no out of 21) and Rashid Khan (31 no out of 11) who kept Gujarat in the game until the last over.
At 140/5 after 16 overs, Gujarat was in trouble, but Tewatia and Rasid had other plans. The duo went on to break up a series of shots to open the game. With 35 needed from 12 balls, southpaw Tewatia used the left arm angle to his advantage hitting T Natarajan for a limit-and-six – slow sweep over the cow’s corner.
Gujarat needed 22 runs in the latter part of the innings and Tewatia started on the right note hitting Marco Jansen in the deep midwicket for another six but could only single out the next ball. The third ball was a long ball on the arc and Rashid killed it on the ground for a six. However, Jansen recovered and threw a point ball.
With 9 runs required from 2 balls, Rashid got under the full pitch low and wide and cut it to clear the strings. The match was ready to bite its nails with three runs needed from the final ball for Gujarat’s victory and two for a Super Over. Jansen threw a harmless short ball and Rashid swept it over the head of a thin leg for a final steal for Titans.
It was Gujarat’s seventh win in their eighth match in the ongoing IPL 2022 and they are top of the tree with 14 points.
