Mumbai, May 1: Brilliant half centuries by KL Rahul (77 of 51) and Deepak Hooda (52 of 34) took Lucknow Super Giants to 195/3 against Delhi Capitals in match 45 of IPL 2022 at Wankhede Stadium, here on Sunday.
Both Rahul and Hooda created an excellent partnership of 95 runs for the second wicket in just 61 balls after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Apart from them, Quinton de Kock (23 of 13) also played an aggressive shot at the top of LSG.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, starter Quinton de Kock gave Lucknow a good start. Showing his aggressive intent, De Kock crushed both of Delhi’s left arm pacemakers, Mustafizur Rahman, by limits and sixes and took LSG to 41/0 at the end of 4 overs.
During the process, Lalit Yadav also dropped the South African batsman. It didn’t prove too costly for Delhi though, as Shardul Thakur blasted past De Kock (23-for-13) in the fifth change of the inning with his off-the-court shot. Deepak Hooda then joined skipper KL Rahul, who was taking his time getting established in the middle before taking any chances.
Both batsmen rotated strikes quite brilliantly and also hit timely limits to maintain Lucknow’s healthy run rate. Kuldeep Yadav has bowled beautifully and been Delhi’s biggest match-winner this season, but both Hooda and Rahul played confidently against the left arm spinner and took 26 from the first two overs from him.
The runs were flowing from both ends as Hooda and Rahul continued to crush Delhi batsmen all over the park and reached their respective fiftys in the 13th and 14th innings.
With Rahul and Hooda going very well, LSG were sailing to a grand total, but again it was Shardul who came to the rescue of Delhi. The pacemaker in the right hand broke the threatening partnership for the second time on the day as LSG lost Hooda to developing play. Marcus Stoinis, who was up next, went off the mark with a four on the first ball he faced, but couldn’t accelerate for most of the innings during his stay in the crease.
With Stoinis struggling to find limits, Rahul decided to switch gears and played some adventurous shots to take LSG further. The Lucknow skipper was hitting the ball well and looked set for another century of the season, but a brilliant catch by Lalit Yadav at the boundary line ended his good stroke.
The wicket proved decisive as Stoinis (17 not out of 16) and Krunal Pandya (9 not out of 6) failed to clear the ropes in the last two overs as Lucknow finished 195/3 from 20 overs. Shardul Thakur (3/40) was the only wicket-taker for Delhi in this game.
Brief scores: Lucknow Super Giants 195/3 in 20 overs (KL Rahul 77, Deepak Hooda 52; Shardul Thakur 3/40) vs Delhi Capitals
