Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being warned to sort out the royal breakup as they prepare to leave for the Netherlands.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams wrote on Twitter: “Harry and Meghan are actually facing the prospect of, save for their mother, the estrangement of their two families, which is not ideal for philanthropists!”
Speaking to Newsweek later, Fitzwilliams highlighted how important it is for the Queen, who is nearly 96, to meet Harry’s youngest daughter, Lilibet.
He said: “You can understand Harry’s position after the terrifying experience with his mother,” but added: “Not attending Prince Philip’s thanksgiving service was extraordinary.”
He continued: “The queen is almost 96 years old and has not met Lilibet.
“I would have thought that given the Queen’s health it has obviously been uneven and [she] have mobility problems, you would surely think that you would make an effort to [see her].”
He said, “We know you love your grandmother very much and it’s an opportunity I think you should take advantage of.”
“On the one hand, Meghan is estranged from her family, apart from her mother, and both of them have distanced themselves from the royal family.
“It’s starting to look weird.
“No one knows what may happen in the coming months, and with relations between the Sussexes and the royals as they are, there is a rift, we know there is.
“It would be in everyone’s interest if the gap were at least partially resolved.”
Based on his comments, expert Ian Lloyd advised Harry to call the Queen when he passes through the UK to reach the Netherlands.
He said: “I think you should be aware that in America they’re quite fond of family values, so you should be aware that if you appear to snub the queen by not visiting her, I don’t think you’ll do well in Britain.” or in America.
He added: “His failure to attend Prince Philip’s memorial service was quite a notable absence when you think he was the only one of eight grandchildren who did not.”
Mr Lloyd said, “I should call.
“It would be very embarrassing if I didn’t…
“The problem is the case of security with the Ministry of the Interior.”
He added: “He has to balance the fact that he hasn’t seen his grandmother for a while and she hasn’t seen Lilibet.”
