Mumbai, April 29: Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant said he was confident in his chances of winning the match against Kolkata Knight Riders despite his team being down to 84/5 at one point.
Pant said he was sure they would make it if they could get deeper into the deaths.
David Waner (42) and Lalit Yadav (22) had rescued Delhi from a 17/2 to guide them to 82/1 before they lost three wickets for two runs and appeared to be in trouble. Axar Patel (24) and Rovman Powell (33 not out) did enough to take them to 150/6 in 19 overs after Kuldeep Yadav (4/14) and Mistafizur Rahman (3/18) shared seven wickets to restrict the Knight Riders. to a modest 146/9 in 20 overs.
But even when it looked like Delhi was losing its way, thanks mainly to pacemaker Umesh Yadav, who claimed 3/24, Pant said he was confident they would win if a batsman managed to stay longer on the wicket.
Asked what he was thinking with the 84/5 score, Pant said: “Obviously we were thinking we lost too many wickets in the middle, but if we took the game deep because not enough runs were needed at that point, then we thought. that if we take it deep, we’ll cross the line. Obviously, it’s good to have Marsh back. But Khaleel got hurt in the last game. Once he’s back, I think we’ll be 100 percent.” Pant praised Rovman Powell for his role as a finisher in leading the team to victory.
“Mostly, we’ve thought about timing to give him a certain number of overs. But in these kinds of situations, when you lose too many wickets, he has to come in. But we see him in a finishing role and he’s done good for us.
He said that Delhi Capitals is not looking too far into the future as of now.
“We’re not thinking too much about the points table. We’re taking it one game at a time. We can be clearer with our plans because when you’re under pressure, if you’re clear on your plans, one or two extra limits can be the difference in the game. That’s something we’re working on, a little more energy on the field,” Pant said.
