Netflix is laying off some of Tudum’s editorial staff just months after launch the website that publishes news, interviews and other fan content. Tudum belongs to the company’s marketing division and includes people who work in entertainment, news, lifestyle and culture content.
Most of Tudum’s 10-person culture and trends team has been laid off, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. They said staff received no advance warning of the layoffs, and other workers learned their colleagues were fired through Twitter. Many of the writers were experienced journalists that Netflix brought in from other outlets, the person says. The person also claims there will be news of layoffs at other teams coming soon. Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company said Protocol there were no plans to close Tudum and he called it “a major priority for the company”.
The layoffs follow last week’s news that the streaming giant lost subscribers for the first time in more than a decade.
