Mumbai, April 28: Five times Indian Premier League (IPL) Champions Mumbai Indians have selected left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya Singh as a replacement for the injured Mohammed Arshad Khan for the remainder of IPL 2022, an official statement from the tournament said on Thursday.
Kumar Kartikeya, who represents Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket, made his debut in 2018 and has so far played nine first-class matches, 19 List A games and eight T20 games, picking 35, 18 and nine wickets respectively.
He had been with the Mumbai Indians team at IPL 2022 as part of the support squad and has now signed up to join the main squad as Khan sustained an injury and was ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
According to a statement from the franchise, Kumar Kartikeya has been impressive in the Mumbai nets and his journey of learning to improve and hone his bowling skills has earned him the call up to the main team. The left arm spinner will now join the main team from Mumbai for the price of INR 20 Lakhs.
Mumbai is virtually out of contention to make the IPL 2022 playoffs, losing eight out of eight matches, the first time that has happened in IPL history. The team led by Rohit Sharma will face Rajasthan Royals on April 30 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
