Jack Dorsey’s new role at Block is not CEO, but Block Head. No, this is not some very late April Fools’ Day prank. The company filed a 8-K with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announcing the change and of course the new title went into effect on 4/20.
Despite the new title (which, in its entirety, is “Boss and President of Block”), Dorsey’s work at Block, the company formerly known as Squarewill ultimately remain the same: there will be “no change in Mr. Dorsey’s roles and responsibilities, and he will continue to serve as the Company’s chief executive officer.” Block’s bylaws no longer require the company to have an officer with the title of CEO and president, which seems to mean that anyone who succeeds Dorsey in his role could also be called Block Head.
The change occurred at Dorsey’s request, according to the filing. Maybe he saw her blocky face at Block’s official website of “Leadership”, which I have used as the image at the top of this post, and decided to continue with the joke. (As of press time, that page still includes his title as CEO.)
Dorsey follows Elon Musk in running a company, but adopting a fancy title instead of CEO, as Musk crowned himself. tesla technology in 2021.
