Climate action was a major pillar of the election campaign of President Joe Biden, who began his presidency with the United States rejoining the Paris Agreement and promising to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
But hit by declining popularity, mainly due to inflation, his administration is encouraging more oil and gas drilling in hopes of lowering fuel prices.
