RAWALPINDI: The government decided to seek assistance from the Pakistan Army for security during the Australia series, police sources told Geo News on Friday.
The sources said that security arrangements have been completed for the historical series under which military personnel will be deployed alongside police personnel.
“All shopping malls and markets adjacent to Pindi Cricket Stadium will be closed for the first test match from March 4,” the sources said, adding that mobile service will also be suspended in certain areas during the teams’ travel. .
“More than 4,000 policemen will be deployed for security in Rawalpindi.”
The Australian team will arrive on February 27 to play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and a T20I.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is doing its best to make the series a success as Australians come to play in the country after almost 24 years and the tour is also important for the full revival of international cricket in Pakistan.
Last year, New Zealand withdrew from the tour of Pakistan minutes before the start of the first match in Rawalpindi for security reasons, while England withdrew from the visit.
