New Delhi, June 1: The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) announced registration for the national qualification tournament, National Esports Championships (NESC 2022), to select the Indian contingent for the World Esports Championships to be held in Bali, Indonesia.
The National Championships will take place virtually with top athletes from across the country engaging in high-octane competition across popular games: eFootball 2022, CS:GO, and Tekken7.
The DOTA team, made up of veteran athletes like Moin Ejaz (captain), Krish, Abhishek, Ketan and Darshan, who qualified for the 2022 Asian Games, will be part of Team India for the 14th Esports World Championship.
“We urge all esports athletes to participate in large numbers and become part of the Indian esports contingent for the 14th edition of the Esports World Championship. The growing interest in esports in our country today encourages us to go further and give athletes and audiences something new and exciting every time,” said Lokesh Suji, Director of the Indian Esports Federation and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation.
“This year’s World Championships will be the largest ever and about 1,000 professional teams/athletes are expected to participate. We also have several prestigious tournaments coming up, such as the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, etc. -sun ‘ and ESFI are poised to make India a global esports powerhouse. I am sure that our esports contingent will not only put up a strong fight but also strive for the podium,” added Suji.
The Indian contingent, selected based on their performances at NESC2022, will participate in the World Esports Championship Regional Qualifiers, the dates of which will be announced soon by the IESF. The Regional Qualifiers will be organized together with the other continental federations.
The Global Finals of the Esports World Championship will take place in Bali, Indonesia from November 27 to December 9.
More than 120 countries from around the world are expected to take part in the IESF flagship event, where the prize pool has been increased from $55,000 in 2021 to $500,000 this year.
Registration for NESC2022 began on Wednesday (June 1) with the last date on June 15.
