Puno, April 18: Four-time IPL Chennai Super Kings champion Ambati Rayudu’s 46-run efforts against the Gujarat Titans might have been wasted at MCA Stadium here on Sunday night, but the right-handed batsman managed to cross the magic mark of 4,000 IPL races in the exciting match.
Rayudu, 36, became the 10th Indian batsman overall to achieve the feat in the IPL.
Rayudu, who has played 55 ODIs and is averaging a commendable 47.05, was picked by the Super Kings in 2018 and picked by the team again ahead of the 2022 IPL. He has scored 1,628 runs for the Super Kings with a strike rate of 127.88.
Rayudu scored his 46 of 31 balls in a losing effort.
Two other Super Kings who have achieved the feat are Suresh Raina (5529) and former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
On Sunday, an undefeated wrestling strike from David Miller (94 of 51) and late blitz attack from Rashid Khan propelled the Gujarat Titans to a memorable three-wicket victory over CSK. With this victory, Gujarat climbed to the top of the table with 10 points from six matches, while CSK fell to their fifth loss in six outings.
Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scored runs again with a superb half century (73 of 48) and helped CSK post 169/5 from 20 overs. As well as Gaikwad, Rayudu played a solid stroke and both batsmen put together a crucial partnership of 92 runs from 56 balls for the third wicket.
Chasing an all-out pair, Gujarat got off to a terrible start as they lost wickets to Shubman Gill (0), Vijay Shankar (0) and Abhinav Manohar (12) inside the power play, leaving them struggling at 16/3.
At 87/5 at 13, Gujarat was reeling, but Miller and backup skipper Rashid Khan had other plans.
