New Delhi, April 7: Barbados Royals, owned by Royals Sports Group, announced on Thursday the appointment of Trevor Penney as their head coach for the 2022 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season.
He will work closely with Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara as part of the role.
He is currently working as an assistant coach for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with franchise partner Rajasthan Royals, Penney’s new role sees him continue his association with Royals Sports Group.
Penney has been a stalwart of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, spending 17 years as a player with the county club before embarking on his extensive coaching career around the world.
Trevor has vast experience working on the international scene with teams such as India, Sri Lanka, England and most recently the West Indies white ball team. He has also been involved through training himself with partner nations such as the Netherlands and the US.
The Zimbabwean has previously been a regular feature on the T20 franchise circuit with past experiences in leagues like the IPL, CPL, Bangladesh Premier League and GT20 Canadian League.
Speaking about his appointment to the CPL franchise, Penney said: “It’s wonderful to continue to be part of the Royal family, in a new league. West Indies bowling coach Roddy Estwick joins the Royals as head assistant coach for the upcoming season. The Barbados native was an assistant coach at St Lucia Kings in previous seasons. In addition, the former bowler Jamaican fast Andrew “Trash” Richardson continues with the Royals as assistant coach, a role he also held in 2021.
